The State Institute of Education (SIE) was setup in 1978-79 in tune with other SIEs in Other States and Union Territories. SIEs in other state and Union Territories had been established as a result of the decision of the then Ministry of Education, Government of India in the conference in 1963.  The SIEs were set up to work for improvement of education in the country. The State Institute of Education (SIE) in Sikkim was set up in 1978-79 and then strengthened to SCERT in the year 2011

 

The State council of Educational Research and training functions as the academic wing of the Education Department, Government of Sikkim. The Institution has been covering programmes and   activities at all levels of school education.
